Tee was born in the jungle on a Sunday. With that information, when his birth was eventually registered with the gov’t he was assigned a birthday. December 23, 1984.
Birthdays are not a big deal to Tee and he had only celebrated his birthday once before. We had so much fun celebrating my birthday together in Pai there was no way I was going to let his birthday go unnoticed. On his official birthday back in December he was sick and slept for most of the day. Then, due to the size of his present and our upcoming travel plans I gave him an IOU for his present. Not much a celebration, especially considering it was his 30th birthday. Before he went back to work this week I decided to celebrate his birthday with him again.
First we tried a new breakfast spot, Butter is Better, a western eatery with the vibe of a classic American diner. Tee ordered banana pancakes, a clique backpacker dish, so the waitress assumed they were for me. Oh, these pancakes were a winner, mmmm, so light and fluffy. I had a huge mug of killer dutch hot cocoa too (any decent chocolate in Thailand is worth mentioning).
Then it was off to pick out Tee’s present, a new guitar. Tee had one many years ago that was stolen and he never replaced it. After seeing how much he enjoys playing it seemed like the perfect gift. We (he) spent the rest of the morning looking at guitars.
Happy, happy, happy!
