Before introducing my self first of all i would like to thank all the volunteers who come here(Nepal) for throwing rocks and helping nepalses people to fight against the biggest pain in their life .
I am a 19 yrs old boy from melamchi who has been throwing rocks for 4 months n still to go on . I got opportunity to volunteer with all hand before 4 month . My story with all hands volunteer began from octobor 9 . Actually my plan was to volunteer for 2 days but me n my friend(Awash Ghimire) extended for 1 week . In my frist day in the field i was in confuse in which world i came . I thought i just came here to through rocks and to clear the dirt of unknow houses of unkown people . After finishing my frist day in the field i directly went to my room and scold my friend for bringing me in another world which was unknow to me and just for doing rubbling . I was totally confused what i was doing .
Before coming to all hands volunteer i even hadn’t thought there is organization called all hands volunteer who is currently working in my locality for bring back smile on the people face and making people strong . When my fren told me about all hands volunteer i told him i will be joinining him in melamchi . I was so lazy that time to fill form so i gave him my email address and password to fill my form. I thought i will be going to melamchi and help tourist people to communicate in better way with local people . This was the thing i was thinking i would be doing in all hands volunteer. I thought they will be using me as translator for running their project in better way . With this mentality i headead toward melamchi my town from kathmandu. When i went to base in the evening time i was happy to see different people from different part of the world with different concept and idea . when Eve came and told me what we are going to do in all hands volunteer than for a second i thought i jumped from the roof of the base .
As time started to flow as melamchi river i was getting inside the all hands culture . I was able to do what they used to say us for to do . Frist day passed..second day passed….third day passed…………….frist week passed…..frist month passed ……everything was going right in all hands volunteer. In all hands you get to meet great people from differnt parts of the world . Everyday rubbling was making me stronger than i used to be which helped me to save my money for fitness in kathmandu. Everyday you get new taste of dal bhat from different benificery . Everyday you get to meet new volunteer and ask about them and about their country which helps you to keep knowledge about the all around the world thah means you are becoming google. With this kind of regular thing my days in all hand started passing in a few minutes . When ur link with all hands volunteer you wont be knowing how fast time pass .
The thing that kept me in all hands volunteer is the big smile that i used to get from benificery after we finish rubbling in his/her home. It always encouraged me to push my limit for next smile . The smile they used to show me was more valuable then anything in the world. Being nepali its always hard to volunteer specially when ur not paid but my family supported me because they knew what i was doing and for what i was doing . For this i want to thank my family.
The most difficult question you get when your nepali and doing volunteering is#do_u_get_money_for_this? Everywhere i go and do rubbling people think i am paid so they ask me this question . After this question i always have two thought in my mind:
1-if i say i am paid then this people will also send their children for volunteering and when they wont get money they will be saying i am lyer and kiss my ass..
2-if i said i am not paid then they will be thinking i am crazy or i have some mental illiness.
So i keep my mounth close and start to do my work. They even think that u guys are paid by your government. They even dont know the actual meaning of volunteer. From this kind of concept of local people you can guess how back my country is?
Usually i used to pass my days playing football and chatting in kathmandu but in all hand its totally different. Insted of kicking football i am throwing rocks , insted of chatting in internet with unknown girls from unknown country i am talking directly with unknown girls from unknown country ,insted of being around kathmandu girls i am around white girls from different country, insted of being online all the time i am not able to sit online even 1 hour a day bceause all hands volunteer wifi is like once in a blue moon.
I have changed my self more in all hand then in any place . Because of all hands i have develop self confidence in my self . Usually i dont used to speak with the people i dont know but now i am can speak more with anyone from any part of the world . For me all hands volunteer is transparent organizarion . All of the people can see what is going on all hands organization . We can also see how much donation came and how much is used for what . We can also share our view and ideas with staff for making it better organization . They are always ready to take your view and ideas and try to implement it.
For me base is earth and inside it there is many rooms . Room is like countries inside earth and inside room there are many people from many countries. So our base is small earth . Each of us represt our country in all hands volunteer base . That means with your acts people are going to judge ur country and remember your country . Each of us are ambassdor for our country. Today all hands volunteer has become one of the important part of my life . It has become one of the part of my family . I am ready to give my best to all hands volunteer . I cant imagine leaving my self leaving all hands volunteer .
I dont know how many rocks i throwed, how many site i finished n most important is how many big smiles i saw and I know i will be throwing more rocks and will be finishing more site in coming days just in search of big smiles from people .
smile the whole day through
And the word smiling u too
