I got the dreaded cold and fell behind so quickly. BOOOO! Playing catch up now, back to last Wednesday.
Mom and Pam had been hearing me talk about my favorite places around Chiang Mai for 2 years and now it was time to drop in on a few of them. They didn’t want to miss a thing so we had a busy day ahead of us.
First Pam wanted to walk a section of the moat. After playing in the topiaries and seeing one of the “lost chedis” of Chiang Mai we set off from Chiang Mai Gate and headed west.
Then we cut through quiet Buak Haad Park and talked about krataw (a volleyball-like sport that requires kicking a small woven ball over a net). Next we stopped at Wat Puak Hong to see the more maintained Burmese chedi there and marvel at the anatomy of the banana flower.
Jumped on a songthaew and went to Akha Ama. Here’s a great article about Akha Ama, read on. Here we also met up with Robert and Caroline for lunch of vegetarian khao soi. Next we left the Old City to visit my home away from home, The London Tearoom.
Pam is a fellow international thrift store shopper so we popped into Free Bird Cafe to check out their pre-loved shop. Pam found a little chicken themed goody for herself and then after a long day it was time for a massage at Lila.
Western food had been requested for dinner so as soon as Tee was back from work we were off to Dukes for their ever delicious pizza and Greek salad. Yum! We got dropped off across the river from Dukes and on our walk across the Iron Bridge I saw a mayfly clinging to a beam, which made me think of my SRCD bio-monitoring days. xoxo
