About every 9 months I start to get homesick for California and I put off coming home until April so that I can be home for my favorite weekend of the year. This year I decided to surprise EVERYONE and not tell a soul I was coming home (I did drop a quick note to a friend begging for a place to stay and secrecy about 24 hours before I landed). I spent the last 2 weeks of April and the first week of June in California and once again California proved to be wonderful.
Like the social butterfly I am, I had fun flitting around town surprising my friends and family. After catching up with my mom, sister, aunt and uncle, other mother, mentor, cousins, nieces, the Humboldt crew, and numerous Winters friends it was time for the best day of the year. Youth Day!
The most important part of this trip were the big (and small) moments that filled my heart thanks to the love and generosity of my friends and family. Like filling my belly with California favorites like Mexican food and huge burgers while savoring time with amazing souls, getting excited about planning my Mom’s upcoming visit to Thailand, treasuring Winters incredible sense of community after running into a familiar face and having her invite me in for a cup of tea which led to us sitting chatting for several hours, sharing my love for Youth Day with my Mom for the first time and appreciating all the efforts of our pre and post party hosts, friends hospitality when I pop up on their porch like a stray cat, and my friends enabling me to spend quality with nature by taking me out kayaking and canoeing on Lake Solano and hiking in Cold Canyon and Point Reyes National Seashore.
As I mentioned before being in the states solo is a bit bittersweet because for a 2nd year in a row Tee isn’t joining me here. We’re making it a priority this year to stay in Thailand long enough that we can get him a visa to visit the states so he can meet all my lovelies and take the epic California road trip we’ve been talking about ever since we got married. Here’s to more travels with my favorite travel partner. My heart is full, until next time. Xoxo
