In so many ways it feels as if I never left Winters. Within minutes of arriving back in town I was bumping into friends on Main St and a few short moments after that I was devouring a juicy Davis Farmers Market sandwich at Putah Creek Cafe.
Within 24 hours of arriving, after grabbing a latte and chatting with half the town at Steady Eddy’s, I was out working on Putah Creek with volunteers and within 48 hours I was marching down Main Street with the Winters Friends of the Library in our full Youth Day regalia.
It felt so familiar and comfortable, yet I felt like I was living a double life. I have a whole different life that I live now halfway around the world in Thailand. A life in a new country, with a new husband, a new language, a new home, new rituals, and new food. It is a wonderful life. But in that new life I miss Winters so badly.
So no matter where in the world I end up, Winters will always hold a special spot in my heart as it is home to the most fabulous friends a girl could ever ask for. It is not easy to leave this community again, but I am stocking up on hugs and love to tide me over until my next visit and I will keep exploring my new country in hopes of finding (or creating) a similar community there.
XOXO….until we meet again.
