For about a month before I came back to the states I talked daily about binge eating chocolate and cheese upon my return. My Mom helped get this started by bringing a block of brie and bars of chocolate with her when she picked me up and I have been enjoying similar indulgences all month.
After I had been back for a week or so Tee asked me, “So, do you eat steak everyday?”. “No way”, I laughingly replied. Then last week I was treated to steak 3 nights in a row!
First I joined my awesome cousins in Davis who bbq’d up some tasty flank steak. The meal came to a fiery finish as I tried my hand at torching sugar to create the caramel crust on chocolate cream brulee. I am proud to say I did not burn a hole in either my hand or the tablecloth.
The next night I joined friends for a feast of shrimp skewers, tri-tip, and ice cream with fresh berries. This amazing spread was prepared by Chef Mando while Janette whipped up a huge pitcher of minty fauxjitos.
The following night it was off to Cattlemen’s to meet up with the Humboldt crew. We ate and drank and laughed and then ate and drank and laughed some more. I even got to see Momma and Poppa T!
Lastly, back to chocolate…..below is my own contribution to the month long chocolate fest.
Next I’m off to Cottonwood and Fortuna to see a bit more of my Humboldt family.
