Whenever I am in Waterford for the weekend I spend Saturday at the family stall at Modesto Farmers Market. This weekend was no different, I needed my farmers market fix. I will easily admit I mostly go there to socialize and nibble on bruised and bird-pecked fruit (the best tasting pieces), but I do manage to sell some fruit to our customers as well.
Many, many moons ago, when I was young, apricots didn’t get ripe until the end of June and they were one of the first fruits of the season. On the first picking, having no memory of the previous seasons lessons, I would eat so many overripe Tiltons while packing boxes that…well you know what happens next. Now on May Day we have ripe peaches, nectarines, apricots, and cherries and all before the berry season is even in full swing.
It’s just the beginning of the season, so if you’re in Modesto on a Thursday or Saturday morning, stop by and say hi to my family.
