|Cache Creek Wilderness Area backpacking trip-thanks Miles and Nina|
Let me just say, I have amazing friends.
In preparation for my trip, I spent hundreds of hours reading articles on various travel blogs. One topic that came up repeatedly was how to deal with unsupportive family and friends. This made me a bit nervous as I started telling family and friends about my plans. Each time I would brace myself for a potentially negative reaction, but it never happened.
Instead I was met with unbridled excitement as friends: offered me an abundance of travel tips, provided maps for “must see” destinations, arranged for me to stay with their out of state relatives and listened to 29 different versions of “the plan”.
Then it was time to leave.
As my departure date neared, I became a bit anxious about leaving Winters. To me, Winters is an unique wonderland where you smile and say hello to everyone you pass and where people are so friendly that you best not be in a hurry, ever, because, at a minimum, it take will take half an hour to walk one block. I’m going to miss this town.
Wintarians are also known to throw some kick ass parties. Thank you, Chris, for hosting the most fabulous send off a girl could wish for and I appreciate the many friends who contributed to this memorable affair. I feel very lucky to have the support of so many people and support comes in many interesting disguises like good bye pie, custom music mixes to keep me entertained on the road, a travel journal with an emergency $20 tucked inside, a beautiful silk travel scarf and much more. I’m going to miss my amazing friends.
And with a lifetime worth of well wishes and hugs ….I’m off.
