The last 3 days I worked on All Hands 50 Homes Project. We are working to build transitional shelters, that can be converted to permanent homes, in a small village overlooking Kathmandu. The first day I was on the tie wire team and we set up wire grids to keep the rock wall from collapsing inward. The next 2 days I worked on the wall building and installation team. We riveted sheets of galvanized iron together and attached them to the metal super structure that yet another team was working to construct. Next the roof and floor team will come in and do their part. Lastly, the family is provided with cement to install the rock wall that completes the home.
This is the last project I will work on from the Kathmandu base. Today I am transferring to a new base in a much more rural area in Sindhupalchok district. This area was one of the hardest hit and 90% of the homes were destroyed.
